Boston, MA- A Boston police office was shot during a gun battle early Friday morning with a suspect who was found dead.
At approximately 2:21 a.m, two officers were conducting a traffic stop on Gerard Street in Roxbury when there was exchange of gunfire between the officer and suspect.
One officer was shot several times in the torso. The officer was transported to Boston Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect fled in his vehicle and was recovered shortly after on George Street. The suspect was found deceased, and officers recovered a weapon. The identity of the suspect has not been made public at this time, however officials are saying he was a 30 year old male.
Earlier today, Police Commissioner William Gross said the suspect “exchanged several rounds of gunfire with the Boston police officers.” That’s when the officer was “shot several times,” Gross said.
“We’re actively canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses, video and anything that can help in this investigation,” he added.
The shooting is also being investigated by Suffolk District Attorney Rachel Rollins and her office, as are all homicides in the city.
