According to New Orleans Police, five bystanders who were waiting outside of a bus stop have been shot during a Police shootout with a robbery suspect.
The suspect was fatally shot during the incident by a Louisiana State Police Police officer.
Sunday, February 17, at 6:43 p.m, Detectives were investigating a series of robberies in the 6th district when they came across a persons of interest near a bus stop at the intersection of Canal street and Elk place. Detectives attempted to engage the possible suspect, but when they attempted to talk with the individual, he pulled out a weapon and began firing. Five Bystanders were struck during the shootout.
The gun fire continued down Elk Place where the suspect then turned his sights to a Louisiana State Police officer and began shooting. The officer returned fire, striking and killing the suspect.
Four out of the five bystanders that were struck are in stable condition. One is in critical condition and will have to undergo surgery. No officers were injured during this incident.
