Broward County, FL— Miccosukee Police Sergeant Steven Greco was killed on his way home from work on Saturday morning, when a wrong-way driver crashed into his vehicle head-on.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 5 a.m on Alligator Alley on I-75.
Thirty-two year old Curtis Woolwine was traveling westbound in his 2016 Chevrolet Sonic when he struck Sgt. Greco in his 2018 Dodge Charger head on. Woolwine, who was traveling the wrong way, was pronounced dead on scene.
Sgt. Greco, 40, was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center by helicopter, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Sgt. Greco joined the Miccosukee Police Department (MPD) in March of 2018. Earlier on the day he died, he was named as the MPD’s Officer of the Month, and was also presented a Department Lifesaving Award for heroically rescuing a motorist from a burning vehicle, saving his life, according to a fundraising page set up to assist his family in the wake of their loss.
His wife, Phoebe, was so overcome with grief when she was told about her husband’s death, she had to be hospitalized, his brother told WTVJ.
Phoebe is nine months pregnant with the couple’s first child – a little girl, according to the fundraising page.
