Chicago, IL- “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett turned himself in to Chicago Police early Thursday morningRead Now
Smollett turned himself in at the Central Distict Police Station around 5 a.m. this morning.
Police have transported Smollett to the Leighton Criminal Courthouses for a bond hearing. Smollett did not give police a statement in reference to the incident.
Smollett has been charged with disorderly conduct after allegedly staging an attack on himself.
Chicago Detectives suspect that Smollett filed a false police report when he said he was the victim of a racist, homophobic attack late last month in downtown Chicago.
Smollett claimed he was walking home on January 29th around 2 a.m. when two masked men shouted racist and homophobic slurs as they beat him. Smollett says they tied a noose around his neck and poured a chemical on him.
His two brothers, Ola and Abel Osundairo say they were paid $3,500 to orchestrate the attack. They left to Nigeria hours after the attack, but were arrested when they came back to Chicago. They were released without charges.
