Chicago-A 26-year-old woman and a 16 year-old boy were among seven people who were shot in overnight violence that started about 9:30 p.m. on Friday.
The latest shooting happened shortly after 3:55 a.m. Saturday in the 4200 block of South Michigan Avenue in the South Side’s Bronzeville neighborhood. A 35-year-old man walked into a residence and told his girlfriend he had been shot.
The man was taken in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest, to the University of Chicago Medical Center. The circumstances leading up to the shooting were not known, police said.
About 2:30 a.m., a 26-year-old woman was critically wounded in a shooting on the West Side in the 3800 block of West Adams Street in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. The woman was in a vehicle when another vehicle drove up, and someone opened fire in her direction, police said.
The offending vehicle fled to the expressway, where two males jumped out near 30th and Wells streets. One of them was caught a short distance later, and was taken into custody and was being questioned.
The woman suffered wounds to the chest, arm and abdomen, and was taken to Stroger Hospital where she was listed in critical condition, police said.
Shortly after 2:20 a.m., a 32-year-old man was shot inside a residence in the 11200 block of South Homewood Avenue in the Far South Side’s Morgan Park neighborhood. Details were scarce, but the man suffered wounds to the left side torso, and was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.
Shortly after 1:30 a.m., a 21-year-old man was shot in the 4400 block of South Morgan Street in the South Side’s Back of the Yards neighborhood. Police said the man was standing outside near his vehicle when a group of people started arguing, and someone fired shots. The man got himself to Rush University Medical Center. He suffered a wound to the inner thigh and was in good condition.
Police said the gunman possibly fled the scene in a maroon vehicle.
About 10 p.m. Friday, another shooting happened on the West Side in the 3800 block of West Division Street in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side. A 21-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were shot in the front yard of a residence, said police.
The two victims were approached and shot by two males wearing dark clothing. The man suffered wounds to the upper left arm, and was taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital. The boy was shot in the buttocks, and was taken to the same hospital where his condition was stabilized. Both were uncooperative with officers, police said.
Shortly after 9:30 p.m. Friday, a 44-year-old man was shot in the left armpit in the 6700 block of South Merrill Avenue in the South Side’s South Shore neighborhood. He was walking when someone in a black hoodie approached and shot him before fleeing the scene, police said. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where his condition was stabilized. No one was in custody.
