Columbia, MD-Howard County police have arrested a Columbia woman in connection with the death of her newborn child in November 2018.
Moira Akers, 38, was charged with one count of first-degree murder.
On November 1, officers were called to Howard County General Hospital after Akers gave birth at her home. Investigators went to the house and found a newborn boy’s body in a zipped plastic bag under blankets in a closet.
A recently completed autopsy classified the death as a homicide. The finding state that the infant was full-term and alive at birth. The cause of the death was ruled as asphyxiation and exposure.
Police said an analysis of Akers' Internet search history revealed numerous searches on how to terminate a pregnancy.
Akers was arrested Wednesday night and was being held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center.
