DeLand, FL-A 72-year-old DeLand man was arrested after allegedly stabbing his nephew because he was taking too much time in the bathroom.
Dan Johnson was arrested Tuesday on charged of aggravated assault. He was taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail where he is being held without bond.
Police responded to the 500 block of East Beresford Avenue after a 29-year-old male reported he had been stabbed several times and the assailant was still in the house.
Police found the victim with stab wounds to his abdomen and lower back, and he was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach. The victim is expected to survive.
Johnson stabbed his nephew after they got into a dispute about how much time the victim spent in the bathroom. Detectives said Johnson knocked on the bathroom door twice and told his nephew to get out. The nephew then opened the door and said he had only been in there for a short time and Johnson stabbed him for being “disrespectful.”
Johnson also claimed that his nephew had puffed out his chest at him, which he viewed as a threat to his life, police said. Detectives, however, could not find evidence that the nephew attempted to attack or verbally threaten his uncle.
