Randallstown, MD--A 24 year old man who was shot by police in a Randallstown shopping center has died.
A man wielding a machete is dead after a police-involved shooting in Randallstown Tuesday afternoon.
Police have identified the man as Emanuel David Oates, 24. Baltimore County Police were investigating an accident in the parking lot of the Liberty Court Shopping Center in the 8600 block of Liberty Road when the officer was approached by an employee of the Dollar Tree. The employee advised the officer that Oates had just shoplifted from the store. The officer approached Oates, however Oates continued to walk away. Officers attempted to stop Oates on Old Court Road at which time Oates pulled out a machete from under his jacket and swung the knife at the officer. Oates ran inside the Aldi store while he continued to wield the machete while the store was occupied by employees and customers.
Oates was given several commands to drop the weapon, however he continued to advance towards the officers while wielding the machete.
Two officers fired their weapons and struck Oates once in the upper body. The Baltimore County Police Homicide Unit is continuing their investigation along with the Assistant State's Attorney Office for Baltimore County. Both officers are on administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation.
