Gov. Andrew Cuomo is now the target of a federal investigation for the alleged nursing home scandal. A dark cloud that has loomed over the late Gov of NY for quite some time.
Federal authorities are looking into Cuomo for a possible cover up of the reported deaths involving nursing homes amid the covid-19 pandemic that rocked NY to the core. The Pandemic that started on nothing more than a few mild cases in the US, quickly spread through the states causing catastrophic damage. From the outrageous number of deaths, down to the near economic recession, the aftermath is nothing short of devastating.
If that isn't bad enough, Imagine deaths of elderly possibly being involved in a widespread scandal that involves top tier officials from the state of NY. Cuomo’s administration has faced an overwhelming amount of backlash among a since-rescinded March 25 state Health Department directive ordering nursing homes to admit infected patients being discharged from hospitals. That backlash only grew when state Attorney General Letitia James released a damning report saying the state likely undercounted the nursing home COVID-19 death toll by more than 50 percent.
Repeated requests from lawmakers and the media for the number of nursing home resident deaths in hospitals were ignored. The administration also fought a Freedom of Information lawsuit filed by the Empire Center for Public Policy.
The vicious cycle continued last week, when The Post exclusively revealed the governor’s office hid nursing home death numbers from the state legislature.
Cuomo’s top aide, DeRosa, privately admitted to Democratic lawmakers that the administration withheld the data over fears it would be “used against us” by federal prosecutors.
The administration is currently cooperating with authorities on this matter.
