Waseca, MN-Tyler Janovsky, 37, of Waseca, has been charged with two counts of 1st-degree attempted murder for the shooting of the 32-year-old father-of-two, who remains in a critical condition in a Twin Cities hospital.
Janovsky, a career criminal, tried to evade capture by running across a garage rooftop in Waseca before opening fire on police, hitting Officer Arik Matson in the head.
Police responded to a report of a suspicious person in the backyards along the 900 block of 3rd Avenue SE.
One officer came out onto a balcony to pursue Janovsky, prompting the suspect to flee onto an attached garage roof, crossing to the other side of the garage facing the front of the house.
Matson and two other officers then circled the house, with Janovsky firing a shot that missed one of them.
He then fired again, hitting Matson – who was in the front driveway – in the head. The other officers exchanged gunfire with Janovsky, ultimately hitting him. He was then arrested, with a black handgun recovered from the scene.
