Nashville, TN- A Metro Police Officer is recovering at home from injuries she received after being attacked while trying to break up a fight at an Antioch gas Station.
At approximately 3:30 a.m., Officer Autumn Manning responded to two vehicles parked in an empty lot of ac loses Shell gas station at 197 Haywood Lane. When she arrived, she observed a man beating another man. The victim was bloody when she got there.
Manning ordered the attacker, 34 year old Marcelo Mendoza, to stop, however he reused. Mendoza had a pool cue (which he was using to beat the victim) in his hand. Manning grabbed the pool cue and while attempting to take Mendoza into custody, he began punching her in the head with a closed fist. Manning fell to the ground, and the victim of the beating got in between the officer and Mendoza, when Mendoza fled on foot.
Both the victim and the officer were taken to the hospital for treatment. Police are still searching for Mendoza who is front the Townes Court area of Nashville. An arrest warrant has been issued charging Mendoza with aggravated assault, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and evading arrest.
