New York City, NY— A 20 year old driver who struck an officer during a wild police chase in New York City Thursday night was taken into custody early Friday morning.
The chase began on Thursday night at approximately 9 p.m. when an NYPD officer attempted to pulled over the BMW for a tinted windows violation. While fleeing the scene at 96th St, the suspect tried to slam into a cop car. The suspect headed down the FDR Drive (one of the busiest parkways in NYC), however officers caught up to him in lower Manhattan.
Police say that for a second time, he drove his BMW directly at a group of officers. The officers responded by opening fire and shooting out of the BMW’s windows. The suspect abandoned his vehicle , and attempted to flee on foot, however officers were able to apprehend him. One officer suffered lacerations to his arms and legs after being hit by the vehicle. He was transported to the hospital, however has since been released. The identity of the suspect has not yet been released.
