Police are searching for a would-be cop killer they say opened fire, striking no one, after they pulled him over for a car stop for non-working brake lights at 1:30 a.m. Saturday in Jamaica, Queens.
The suspect, accused of fleeing on foot while popping off three shots β is Willie Smith, 40, of 171 Place in Jamaica.
Police say Smith is known to carry a .45 caliber handgun and wears a bullet-resistant vest βat all times.β
He is wanted for the attempted murder of a police officer.
The driver of the car, Robert West, 38, remained at the scene at the corner of Sayres Avenue and 175th Street.
He is charged with reckless endangerment and obstructing governmental administration.
