Lancaster, PA-Riots erupted overnight in Lancaster after police fatally shoot knife-wielding man.
Rioters gathered outside of the police station, damaged police vehicle and threw bricks and other objects at officers. Rioters roamed the city breaking windows, stealing merchandise, and setting fires. Officers used tear gas and rubber bullets to break up the crowd.
“A police-involved shooting has significant impact on a community, as we are seeing with the large number of individuals gathering in the streets,” District Attorney Heather Adams said Sunday night. “We ask that acts of protest remain peaceful as violence and destruction of property will become headlines and serve no purpose for the safety and wellbeing of our citizens and neighborhoods.”

The officer responded to a call for a domestic disturbance where a man, later identified as, 27-year-old Ricardo Munoz, was becoming aggressive with his mother and attempted to break into her house.
Bodycam footage released by the department shows the officer walking up to the residence and woman at the door while Munoz was yelling inside. The video then shows Munoz running out of the house holding a knife, and running towards the officer.
The officer shoots Munoz several times and Munoz falls to the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officer has been placed on leave, according to a statement from Lancaster mayor Danene Sorace and the district attorney’s office said the shooting is under investigation to determine if the officer’s use of force was justified.
Lancaster mayor Danene Sorace said in a statement that the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on leave. “This has been a heartbreaking day for our city. I grieve for the loss of life and know that there are more questions to be answered as the investigation continues,” Sorace said.
