ROSEBURG, Ore. A stolen vehicle pursuit leads to a shootout and the discovery of human remains.3/10/2019
Deputies from the Roseburg, Ore Police department pursued a stolen vehicle that was believed to have “contained multiple weapons and ammunition, to include a semi-automatic rifle,” the sheriff’s office said.
The incident started about 6 p.m. when emergency dispatchers received reports of a stolen car spotted at the Love's truck stop along I-5 at the Highway 99 interchange. The stolen vehicle took off on authorities leading them on a chase where the vehicle eventually got stuck in a field on a nearby ranch. The driver began shooting at authorities shortly after becoming stuck in the field. Officers returned fire, and the stolen vehicle started smoking before quickly becoming engulfed in flames.
“Law enforcement later confirmed the presence of human remains in the vehicle,” authorities said. No law enforcement officers were hurt in the shootout. Those involved were placed on administrative leave, as is typical officer-involved shooting protocol.
