Richmond, VA- A 3-year-old Virginia boy was shot and killed as he played in his Richmond neighborhood.
The shooting occurred about 4 p.m. Saturday as Sharmar Hill Jr. and his siblings played along Southlawn Avenue in Hillside Court. A bullet struck the boy, and his 14-year-old sister carried him inside and called 9-1-1.
Police were called to the 1700 block of Southlawn Avenue in the Hillside Court neighborhood for a shooting. When they arrived, they found the child suffering from a gunshot wound.
The child was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died.
Richmond police are looking into whether a suspect in a Friday carjacking may have been involved with the shooting. Police arrested Antonio L. Harris, 21, on carjacking and weapons charges early Sunday. He is not currently facing charges in the boy’s death.
“It’s just sickening… disgusting man. My own community… my own people, “said Hill, Sr. “I’m trying to make something for my family and trying to get them out of here,” said Hill, Sr. “I know it’s going to take some time. I can’t imagine having to live like this every day.”
