Wellesley, MA--A man is in custody after driving a stolen vehicle and dragging and officer down the eastbound side of Route 9 Saturday in Wellesley.
After a long search for the suspect's vehicle, police located Theodore William Newton, a 37 year old male from Delaware. Newton was taken into custody by Massachusetts State Police at approximately 1 a.m. Sunday on Interstate 84 in Sturbridge.
Officials report an officer stopped the silver 2017 Nissan Altima on Worchester Street on Route 128 at 7:09 p.m. Saturday night.
According to police, the vehicle was stolen from Delaware.
Wellesley Police said the officer was dragged approximately 15 feet before he was able to free himself from the vehicle.
The officer was transported to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The officer has been treated and released.
Newton was wanted by Wellesley police for various motor vehicle-related charges, assault and battery on a police officer with a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest.
